Stateline Woodturners
August, 2008 Meeting
Hello to Everyone!
Saturday’s meeting was another good one, with lots going on. To begin with, we welcomed two new members, Devin
Howard and his son Scott, and Nophachai Cholthitchanta from the U of A. Devin and Scott have already begun their
woodturning journey, while Nophachai is just getting started towards his goal of turning a clarinet. Welcome to all of
them!
The $5 raffle was very successful once again, with a cherry vase donated by Doug Hyde, and won by Kurt Bird. The
raffle in September will feature a piece by Art Duell, which we’ll be looking forward to.
Our demonstrators Bob Jarrett and Bill Porterfield, did an excellent job, and had everyone paying attention to see
what was next. Bob’s Christmas ornaments gave us all ideas on things we can do, and the custom tools and
techniques are helpful to us all. The square bowls that Bill turns showed everyone how to turn ‘air wood’, and gave
us an inside look at a unique skill. Thank you both for traveling to our area and the great demos!
The Novice turner of the month was Leo Hapeman, and Jim King won for the Advanced turner. Congratulations to
you both!
Again a reminder, please be sure to return any library materials you may have so that all of the club members can
enjoy our great resource.
See you on 4th Saturday at Mark’s
