Stateline Woodturners
May, 2009 Meeting
The May meeting was a field trip to Ed Willey's place in Clarksville, Arkansas. Roughly twenty club members
made the trip, and we all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. During the short club meeting, we voted to make the
December meeting the Christmas party.
Ed took up turning in 1989 after retiring from the concrete business. Along the way he has owned a
Powermatic 90, the Woodfast shortbed lathe that Mark Ost now has in his shop, and the Woodtek No. 1 that
is the current lathe. He estimates that he has turned over 1000 pieces, many of which have sold through
local galleries. His shop was fun to see as well. Ed's ability to make or modify jigs and fixtures to help him
with his designs has allowed him to experiment with interesting combinations in his turnings. Walking
through the house and getting to look at all of the different pieces, many of which are pretty good sized, was
a privilege and a treat!
This gracious 86 year old provided us hospitality and inspiration! Thanks, Ed.
After the meeting, we all had a great BBQ lunch in Ozark with nearly twenty club members. Good food and
great company! It was a very good trip!
Pictures of the meeting are posted below!
See you all at 4th Saturday!!
